The ride takes 33 minutes and requires a vertical climb of 1,469 m. The line leads on 9.4 kilometres over dramatic bridges, through galleries and tunnels, across forests of larch and Swiss stone pine, and past rocky ravines and mountain lakes. The Gornergrat train goes from the village centre in Zermatt to Gornergrat (3,089 m) in 33 minutes. Option 1: Take the Gornergrat Bahn The most popular way to see the Matterhorn in Zermatt is to take the train up to the Gornergrat Bhan. Trains run every 30 minutes and a spectacularly busy, to get some great views make sure you sit on the right-hand side of the train.

Here is a large Matterhorn Terminal parking lot near the train station. It cost 15,50CHF to park there for the day. From Täsch, shuttle trains run every 20 minutes and the journey takes 12 minutes. Return tickets cost CHF 16.40/adult, CHF 8.20/child, Swiss Travel Pass holders travel for free, Half-fare and Junior cards are accepted.
